We already use them! But should we be using more?
It depends. It's not a matter of should we it's a matter of, do you want to?
It seems that if you wanted to use them in transits and natal chart readings, it'd be considered more generational and more significant based on the orb. This is assuming you're using the default settings of Western Astrology being: Tropical, Placidus, or Whole Sign. I suppose you could do the same with Sidereal.
I do wonder if it would be more beneficial to view them through the constellations. If not that then maybe by use of the Tri-Dial Method.
If Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto play some sort of role in the sky and in our lives surely those that are further out would hold some significance in our lives.
Which leads us to our first Trans-Neptunian Object (TNO): Makemake
Background
Apparently upon deciding a suitable name for this particular TNO, it's discoverers, Michael "Mike" E. Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz had difficulty in determining a name that was most suitable. Makemake had no discernable traits that they could relate to mythology thus making the naming of it quite difficult.
Initially, it was nicknamed Easterbunny since the TNO was discovered shortly after Easter. In efforts to retain its connection with Easter, and to meet the IAU's criteria for naming of Kuiper Belt Objects after creator deities, the team had settled on the name of Makemake, known as the god, and creator of the Rapa Nui people in Easter Island.
Perhaps it's not too far-fetched to form the connection between the Easter Holiday and the naming of Makemake. Naming of planets and its manifestations is hardly arbitrary.

While I'm not familiar with the mythology of the Rappa Nui people I am familiar with the mythology of God and Jesus.
As it goes, the deity known as God created the heavens and the Earth. Eventually he created man and woman. They were placed within the Garden of Eden where they were given perrmission to eat from any tree except from one tree which contains forbidden knowledge.
Eve, ate from the forbidden tree and then shared its fruits with Adam. The consequences resulted in punishment from God.
The story of Jesus
Jesuss was an immaculate conception, able to turn water into wine, son of God, and because he was crucified on the cross, many of those who believe in Jesus also seem to hold the belief that we must endure the suffering of the human experiencer in his honor.

Overall it seems like a case of reading the mythology of the planets namesake and trying to make the descriptive fit with the planets influence.
I also find that anything connected to the mythology of indigenous tribes is often watered down to some sort of "connection" with the Earth or even something along the lines of "higher-frequency", "spiritual enlightenment" hodgepoodge.
Listen, as an indigenous person, I get it. We're often associated with these things. They're not necessarily "bad" stereotypes but it is lame.
Obviously we're connected to the land. Our ancestors had to work with it because that's all they had was... the land. But our connection with it is varying from tribe to tribe and person to person. This sort of description of being "spiritually aligned" and working at "higher octaves" becomes boring, tired and borders on the same rhetoric of what white supremacists say about star seeds.
What I think would be helpful in delineating its meaning would be looking at what events were occuring in the world upon its naming.
The day Makemake's name was released was on July 14th, 2008. Looking at the day the chart takes the shape of a seesaw. Makemake was also in opposition with Uranus, sextile The Sun, and inconjunct Neptune.
Makemake lies within 28o of Leo Minor. Which means it would lie within the Nakshatra Uttara Phalguni. The presiding deity over Uttara Phalguni is Aryaman. Known for social contracts, leadership, partnerships, and giving courage to those who face adversity.
Perhaps Makemake being opposed to Uranus is able to bring about nurturing in ways we woiuldn't expect; swinging from one extreme to the other. The nurturing of technology to improve the life of us humans here on earth.
The inconjunction of Neptune and Makemake might be an indication of what separates the human from technology and/or concepts. The intellect is there, but the way in which it interacts with the human experience is iffy at best because we're forgetting what it means to be human the more we lean towards technology.
The worship of technology continues to escalate in ways we could only imagine. It aids in abstaining us from making genuine connections with the world and instead veers us towards a world where we must be aligned with technology. We must rely on it.
Put your faith in it, in hopes that the trails of our digital footprint will prove to be beneficial the more we feed and nurture this reliability on it.
If Makemake has significance in one's natal chart, is it possible it could point to some aspect of creative genius that will later come to pass for the next generation? (gifted kids and student athletes don't count give it up already).
Black Swan
I have an inkling that Makemake comes from a result of the usual "The Industrial Revolution and it's consequeneces". Once-in-a-lifetime events have occured just from prominent Makemake aspects. It's shape of the seesaw becomes a physical manifestation. Though it seems more like that of a pendulum than a seesaw as we see from its creation to its inevitable end.

Black Swan Theory is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight.
I don't remember how I got here and maybe it's all confirmation bias but the findings between Makemake and these historical events are interesting nonetheless.
